Calendar quarters split the year into four blocks of three months. Q4 is the longest-feeling quarter for many teams because it combines a full 92 days with the heaviest holiday calendar of the year.
| Quarter | Starts | Ends | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 | January 1 | March 31 | 90 (91 in leap years) |
| Q2 | April 1 | June 30 | 91 |
| Q3 | July 1 | September 30 | 92 |
| Q4 | October 1 | December 31 | 92 |
Weekday counts are Monday–Friday only; public holidays and company shutdowns are not removed because they vary by country, state and employer.
| Year | Oct 1 falls on | Dec 31 falls on | Days | Weekdays |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Thursday | Thursday | 92 | 66 |
| 2027 | Friday | Friday | 92 | 66 |
| 2028 | Sunday | Sunday | 92 | 65 |
| 2029 | Monday | Monday | 92 | 66 |
| 2030 | Tuesday | Tuesday | 92 | 66 |
Many organizations report on a fiscal year that does not match the calendar. Their "Q4" is simply the last three months of their own fiscal year:
| Fiscal year | Typical users | Its Q4 |
|---|---|---|
| January 1 – December 31 | Calendar-year companies | October – December |
| October 1 – September 30 | US federal government | July – September |
| July 1 – June 30 | Australia; most US state governments | April – June |
| April 1 – March 31 | UK, Canadian, Indian and Japanese governments | January – March |
Retailers often use a 52/53-week fiscal year that ends near the end of January, so their Q4 includes the holiday shopping season. Check your own organization's calendar before planning against a quarter-end.
The practical problem with Q4 is not the number of days but how many of them are usable. Between US Thanksgiving week, December holidays and year-end closures, a lot of teams lose two to three working weeks. A simple approach:
In the calendar year, Q4 (the fourth quarter) runs from October 1 to December 31. Companies and governments with a different fiscal year have a different Q4 — for example, the US federal government's Q4 is July 1 to September 30.
The calendar Q4 always has 92 days: 31 in October, 30 in November and 31 in December. That is 13 weeks plus one day.
October 1 to December 31, 2026 contains 66 weekdays (Monday–Friday). Subtract the public holidays and company closures that apply to you — in the US, for example, Thanksgiving (November 26) and Christmas Day (December 25) both fall on weekdays in 2026.
The live calculator at the top of this page counts the days left in the current quarter and fiscal year in your own time zone. On October 1 there are 92 days left in the calendar year including that day.
November is in Q4 of the calendar year. In a fiscal year that starts on July 1 it is in Q2, and in a fiscal year that starts on April 1 (UK, Canada, India, Japan) it is in Q3.
