How these dates are calculated

Every timer counts down in your own time zone and moves on to next year's date as soon as the day is over. Fixed dates (November 1, Veterans Day, Christmas, New Year's Eve) are simple; the others follow rules:

  • End of daylight saving time (US and Canada): the first Sunday in November, at 2:00 a.m. local time.
  • Election Day (US): the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Federal general elections are held in even years; odd years have state and local elections only.
  • Thanksgiving (US): the fourth Thursday in November. Black Friday is the next day and Cyber Monday is four days later โ€” see the Thanksgiving & Black Friday dates.
  • Hanukkah: begins at sundown on the eve of 25 Kislev in the Hebrew calendar, so its Gregorian date changes each year (December 4 in 2026, December 24 in 2027).
